RICK MADERIS

Burnside Knives and IIVNI Eyewear were born from a drive to master the full product lifecycle—balancing conceptual beauty with rigorous utility. As a cross-disciplinary artist and writer, building these brands from the ground up allowed me to develop a unique 'founder’s lens.' I’ve learned to bridge the gap between expressive creative execution and measurable commercial success, and I’m looking to bring that same entrepreneurial rigor and market-tested design fluencies to a dedicated internal team.

  • I had the opportunity to work with Rick at Under Armour. Rick is a triple threat. He’s a talented color designer, a thoughtful concept designer, and a skilled storyteller. Rick’s commitment to enhancing the consumer experience through those three areas prove that he’s an asset to any team that is willing and open to trying something new. He’s passionate about bringing creativity and efficiency to his role, team, and product. He’s great at managing-up. He’s cross-functionally collaborative and inclusive. Rick has my recommendation based on the above attributes. Please feel free to contact me for a reference or further details.

His versatility as a graphic designer spans in a vast amount of directions and he always has the consumer in the forefront. He’s been a joy to work with in the Jordan Kids Footwear Business and his attention to detail, and involvement in his craft is unmatched. Always asking the right questions to hit the brief, and deliverers industry crushing work with precision and passion.

Rick’s industry experience is evident in his work process, he anticipates complications that may arise and proactively problem solves against them.

  • I was able to work closely with Rick on several different footwear projects within Jordan Brand. Rick is enthusiastic, has excellent communication skills, and a really strong design skill set. He is always ready to lend a helping hand to his teammates and has been a joy to work with.m

    —Quan Le

  • Rick is a go-getter in every sense of the word. He has the discipline, skill and organization to get any project off the ground and ready for public consumption. He is supportive to his colleagues/teammates and even spends time mentoring folks outside of those walls. He is and will always be the go-to asset on any team he’s apart of.

  • I've had the privilege of knowing Rick Maderis since he was a student of mine, and it's been nothing short of inspiring to witness his evolution into one of the top creative voices in the field of Color Design & Graphics. Though we've never had a formal reporting relationship, our paths have crossed meaningfully across brands like Adidas and Under Armour, where I've watched him consistently push boundaries and elevate the work around him. Rick is a storyteller in the truest sense—curious, thoughtful, and always listening. He has a rare ability to translate an athlete's personal journey into a compelling visual and emotional narrative, often through the subtle but powerful lens of color. His work with the Steph Curry team on basketball products is a standout example of this craft in action—biographical, deeply intentional, and incredibly resonant with both athlete and consumer. What sets Rick apart is not just his storytelling, but the sensitivity and precision of his design eye. His color sensibility is among the sharpest I’ve encountered, and his graphic taste is equally refined. He doesn’t just create—he channels something intuitive and electric, curating with a kind of fluency that feels like it’s operating on another frequency entirely. Rick is tireless, sincere, and endlessly inventive. He's one of the most creative individuals I've had the pleasure to know and collaborate with. If you're looking for someone who can make a brand more meaningful, more human, and more visually magnetic—Rick's your person.

    —John Acevedo

  • Rick has been a key player in the Jordan Brand in regards to tackling big design initiatives and has offered many smart solutions not only from a graphics standpoint, but also from a footwear design perspective, and is always willing to jump on a project big or small. His creativity is endless.
